A new class that focuses on moving from the design of the body and drawing from Klein Technique, Pilates, Alexander Technique, Body Mind Centering and Yoga.

Class will include:

Skeletal design and how it relates to movement
Body-mind relationship, ideokinesis, neuromuscular pathways,  imagery
Senses, perception and posture
Re-balancing weak and long, short and strong muscles
Gravity, weight, sensation, breath, fluids
Pre-vertebrate patterns underlying movement
Expanding our vocabulary/range/repertory

The classes will initially run for six weeks on Fridays starting 29th September from 12.30 to 1.30pm at the dance studio, Toi Poneke, 69 Abel Smith Street, Te Aro, Wellington. Please arrive by 12.15pm ready to start class at 12.30pm.

Juliet Shelley is a qualified and practicing teacher of Pilates and the Alexander Technique. She has a B.A (Hons) in Dance from the Laban Centre of Movement and Dance, University of London Goldsmiths College and attended the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam (SNDO) for one year. Juliet has been a freelance dancer, teacher and choreographer since 1987. Her experience in Klein Technique, Body Mind Centering and Yoga is from attending workshops and classes as a practitioner from 1984 to today. She studied BMC with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Klein Technique with Susan Klein, Barbara Mahler and Jeremy Nelson and Yoga with Donna Fahri and Shiva Rae among others.

Directions to the dance studio: Walk to no 69 Abel Smith Street which is the building next to Toi Poneke Arts Centre. The building has a big green door and a sign (look up high) right at the top saying Wellington Education Board. (its also the home of DANZ). Go up the steps and enter through the double green doors. After entering the building go through another set of double doors straight ahead of you. Turn to the right and follow the hallway past the kitchen to the dance studio at the end.
