Initially, you’ll be given a postural and physical assessment and we’ll talk about any past or current injuries or conditions. We’ll discuss your goals and what you’d like to achieve from taking mat classes. Class exercises are designed to suit your personal abilities and fitness levels and progress you in ways that are both enjoyable and achievable. My goal is to create the conditions and pathways for your success.
We’ll start with a gentle warm focusing on breathing, centring, focusing and alignment. From there we’ll do exercises that develop stability, strength and flexibility, moving from being on our backs, to our fronts, to our sides, to sitting, all fours and finally to standing.
We’ll work all the muscles of the body on all planes, including rotation, flexion, extension – strengthening areas of weakness and lengthening areas of tightness in the body. We’ll end class with movements and exercises that integrate the whole body, increasing oxygen intake leaving you ready to greet your day with clarity, confidence, co-ordination and vitality.
You’ll be given prescribed exercises to address your specific strengths and problem areas and I’ll create an effective exercise program that you can practice at home or when you’re traveling.
